project presentation
Philagnosty—or love of the unknown—is a concept created by Agathe Simon. In her video triptych, the artist portrays herself as a philagnostic in the Orne countryside where she lives. She metaphorically explores the unknown through the creative process. The soundtrack consists of sounds she recorded in Antarctica, the Arctic, Africa, the Amazon, and the Andes. The text is inspired by her “Manifesto of Philagnostie”, published by “Les Presses du réel”.
The video triptych The Philagnostic is one of the works featured in the exhibition Ex Nihilo. It is supported by ADAGP and the Splash funding program led by RN13BIS – Contemporary Art in Normandy, thanks to support from the DRAC Normandie and the Normandy Region. The soundtrack was created at the EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) studios in Stockholm. This project is supported by Hacnum, the national network for hybrid arts and digital cultures.
